Championing HB26-1139: MHANCO’s Active Role in Advancing Mental Health Access in Colorado

The Mental Health Advocacy Network of Colorado (MHANCO) is deeply engaged in supporting House Bill 26-1139, a pivotal piece of legislation designed to enhance access to mental health services through improved provider networks and insurance transparency. This bill addresses critical barriers faced by mental health providers and their clients, aligning closely with MHANCO’s mission to expand equitable, sustainable care across the state.

Our lobbyist, Camille Driver of 3015 Policy, played a key role in the drafting and revision of HB26-1139. Drawing on her extensive legislative experience and a strong professional partnership with Representative Junie Joseph, the bill’s primary sponsor, Camille ensured that the bill reflects the practical needs of independent providers and the communities they serve. Her expertise helped shape provisions that promote better coordination between Medicaid, commercial insurers, and mental health providers.

Adding a powerful voice to this effort, Blair, our Board President, delivered powerful and convincing testimony during the bill’s committee review at the Colorado State Capitol. With her deep clinical knowledge and leadership in early childhood and family mental health, Blair highlighted how HB26-1139 can remove systemic obstacles and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.

MHANCO’s involvement in HB26-1139 exemplifies our commitment to proactive advocacy and partnership with lawmakers. Together, we are working to create a Colorado where mental health care is accessible, transparent, and truly supportive of both providers and those they serve.
